1 Peter 5:6, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.”

After speaking to the young people about submitting to the elders of the church, Peter then tells them to humble themselves under God’s mighty hand.  The promise to those who humble themselves is that God will lift them up.  

The antithesis to humility is pride. And here in God’s word we have a promise to the prideful as well, God will bring them down. The simple truth is that humility is an attribute of the risen Christ while pride is an attribute of the fallen world.  The question for us as individuals is, “Do I want to imitate Jesus…or the world? Do I want to rise, or fall?  Will I humble myself or be humbled by God?”  The choice is ours.
